The objects in Easy Living explore the tension between the desire for a perfect home and the realities and messiness of everyday life. An iconic carafe by designer Russell Wright which served as initial influence is not independent of time and situation, but rather belongs to the mundane moments of daily life. These fluid moments reveal varied actions, drifting meanings, attachments and situations. The carafe becomes formless and shapeless when the vessel becomes the fluid. Defined by use and identity, the work finds the source of its meaning outside the original inspiration. This series nudges the viewer to inhabit each living moment with more esthetic attentiveness and to find poetic potential in the mutability of daily life.
